This website has been set up to generate ideas and new possibilities for the Arpley Landfill site.

Proposal Number 9:

Once the landfill has been capped a layer of soil will be added. 100 birdboxes on stilts will be installed to encourage birds to nest, bringing in seeds, allowing plants to propagate and a wild meadow to grow.

Proposal Number 8:

Landfill gas will be captured and the harvested methane will be converted to energy to heat local homes.  Any profit generated from energy sold to the National Grid will be redistributed to the local community.

Proposal Number 7:

For the remainder of Arpley’s operational time as landfill, WRG group will be employing sculptors to pile Manchester and Merseyside’s waste into an exact replica of the French Alps.

Fiddler’s Ferry will be painted in the colours of Warrington Football Club and The Warrington Alps will become a viewing platform.

The operating time of Arpley Landfill as a landfill site is to be terminated on 1st January 2013.

Proposed development is for an Energy from Waste facility for the combustion of non-hazardous waste, anaerobic digestion and the recovery of energy.

Proposal Number 4:

The Unilever chimneys will blow pink smoke every Wednesday for the whole of the month of July 2011. The initial application is to add combustible dyes to the material being combusted in the Unilever plant.

Proposal Number 2:

The operating time of Arpley Landfill as a landfill site is to be terminated on 1st January 2013.

The area will undergo extensive redevelopment. The area of Moore Nature Reserve will be extended. Plans are also being considered for a green amusement park including a dry-sledging slope.  The initial application is to change the status from landfill site to amusement park.

Proposal Number 1:

The Bridges at Mersey Street/Bridge Street and Wilderspool Causeway  will be closed to car traffic on the first Friday of every month and will be accessible to cyclists and foot traffic only.
